Elgin Samaritans

The Elgin Branch of Samaritans was opened in 1973 when a small group of Volunteers felt that offering the Samaritans service in the Moray area was important.

Over the years we have moved a number of times but have always been fortunate to have been located in and around the town centre.  In addition to telephone callers, we also welcome visitors to our Branch if you would find it easier to talk in a face-to-face situation.

If you visit and get no answer, do give us a call as we may have been busy on calls when you came to the door.

Listening volunteers are always needed to provide confidential emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide.

We ask you to give us a minimum of a four-hour duty per week, as well as a four-hour night duty at monthly intervals.  There are no qualifications required but an open mind is essential.

We are currently recruiting Listening Volunteers – click the link on the right to receive further details and an Application Form.  You can also apply to help with administration or other non-listening support.  Let us know how you would like to help.
