Motorists travelling through Forres are being warned to expect delays on a stretch of the busy A96 route through the town.
Word on the flood prevention scheme will see the speed limit reduced to just 10mph over a 500-yard stretch of the road with a convoy system and traffic management put in place.
Disruption will be kept to a minimum with the restrictions taking place between 7.30pm and 6.30am between the Greshop roundabout and the Findhorn Bridge, with works expected to end on Friday.
Speaking for roads agency Bear Scotland, Andy Thompson said: “The works have been designed in co-ordination with the Forres Flood Alleviation project.
“They are also being carried out overnight to minimise any delays, we would, however, encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance and allow some extra time.”
Meanwhile the bridge to the east of Sanquhar Loch in Forres is to have its decking renewed as part of ongoing maintenance works. Repairs are to be carried out by the Territorial Army on behalf of Moray Council in the week commencing September 23.
A spokesman said: “The TA will also be installing gabion baskets along a small section at the edge of the path. The works mean that certain areas will not be accessible to the public and that walkers may find that they will be diverted away from the normal path network.
“Signage will be erected in advance to alert users.”
