Community news shop set to get in the swing of things

People walking along the main shopping street in Keith today are being invited to limber up with a swing or two at a golf ball.

The Moray branch of the ‘Living Golf’ initiative is setting up today and tomorrow (Tuesday and Wednesday) at the Pop-up shop on Mid Street, part of an insideMoray led initiative for the shop to be used by smaller community groups.

Living Golf aims to use the sport to promote business, tourism and lifestyle in Moray, encouraging those who already play to play more – and those who don’t to take up the sport, no matter their age or physical abilities.

A spokesman for the initiative said: “Living Golf in business helps to create leaders and build teamwork – anyone witnessing the recent Ryder Cup would have seen how teamwork is so effective in the sport.

“In terms of tourism golf offers an authentic route for people to reconnect with their ancestors, millions are attracted to Scotland’s golf courses from overseas each year.

“Most of all in terms of lifestyle golf promotes relaxation, it provides a way of having fun while improving fitness and overall wellbeing.”

Living Golf will offer visitors to the Keith shop an opportunity to hone any existing golf skills but also a chance for those who have never swung a golf club to give it a go.

The Keith shop will also be providing information on a variety of Moray groups, clubs and organisation so people are encouraged to drop in for a chat.
