Evacuation in progress at major fire incident in Elgin

An evacuation is in progress at Ashgrove Road in Elgin where a major fire has broken out next to a car body repair shop.

Fire and Rescue services are on the scene with police evacuating the area as it is understood that Calor Gas bottles is stored in the vicinity.

Emergency services were called to the unit operated by Moray Pre-Cast at around 4.20pm.  Six fire crews are on site from Elgin, Lossiemouth, Fochabers, Rothes and Forres supported by a ladder vehicle from Inverness.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue service said said that it the incident was still in its early stages while Police have confirmed that Ashgrove Road is currently closed.

The road is a mixture of commercial units and residential homes.  Early reports indicate that there have been no injuries.
