Parents and guardians of children expecting their child to enter full-time education at Moray’s primary schools this summer are being reminded that registration starts today.
All children expected to enter Primary 1 from August at a Moray school must be registered in advance with the appropriate school in their catchment area.
Children will normally begin attending primary school from the start of term in August if their fifth birthday falls between March 1, 2015 and February 29, 2016.
Where a child’s fifth birthday falls between August 19, 2015 (which is the day after the school term starts) and February 29, 2016 may choose to delay their entry into Primary 1 until the following August.
That is a practice known as “deferring entry” – parents requesting a deferred entry must discuss this with the current pre-school centre and their possible primary school.
Alternatively, a parent/guardian can request “early education” for children who are four and a half years old. The early entry assessment team will assess the child and make a recommendation on if earlier school education is suitable for the child.
Advertisements and posters are already in place advising parents and guardians of the registration requirements which they should register their child at their local catchment area school.
Full details on the requirements and options can be found on the Moray Council Website.
