Moray group aims to improve wellbeing through Golf links

The Moray unit of a national health and wellbeing group is aiming to use one of Scotland’s most popular sporting activities to help people become more active.

Living it Up Moray provides a digital platform co-designed with communities to ensure that it reflects what is important to them regarding health and wellbeing.

The group offers anyone living with a long term condition or people who are caring with someone with such a condition a range of online tools designed to help them manage their condition be it physical or mental.

Now the group have teamed up with Living Golf to offer groups a new experience through their Introduction and Advanced Living Golf programmes.

A spokeswoman for Living it Up Moray said: “Many people are nervous to go outside, to walk alone and not be supported.

“Living Golf and Living it Up are there to support everyone, no matter how challenging their circumstances. We bring people together from all backgrounds, nationalities and beliefs to support each other.

“Living Golf encourages different interest groups to come together with a wide variety of ages and abilities. It offers a wonderful opportunity to meet and play with a wide group of people.

“Some players find they are nervous of trying to play golf, and they are embarrassed if they keep missing the golf ball. Others take to golf immediately and they are therefore able to help those who are struggling.

“Most importantly Living Golf encourages laughter and relaxation through simple deep breathing techniques.

“Many may not have had an opportunity to be practice this until now due to illness or age. So it also teaches techniques to gently stretch your body and gradually build up strength.

“Each session is tailored to the persons needs to ensure the best outcomes are delivered to each individual.”

Forres-based Living Golf International uses the sport to encourage wellbeing and sustainability with the partnership aiming to encourage people to live to their fullest through improving health, focus and relaxation.

Living it Up believe the most important factor is for people to come together, despite a wide variety of physical and mental capabilities – and everyone must feel safe and comfortable.

The Living Golf program is available from May, anyone wishing to book a place for themselves or someone under their care is invited to email moray@livingitup.org.uk with the subject ‘Living Golf Programme’.
