PORTKNOCKIE RESIDENTS WILL take to the polls next month after six candidates put their names forward for election to the village’s Community Council.
An election will now be held on Thursday, August 20 to fill the five vacancies with voting packs being sent to around 1000 registered voters in the community council area from the start of next month.
All votes received by the closing date will be counted on August 21 – candidates for election are Diane Anderson, Elaine Davidson, Andy Dewar, John Herd, Fraser Milton and Bert Reid.
Following the election the Portknockie Community Council will once again operate with a full complement of 10 elected members.
Portknockie is one of three community councils in Moray where nominations had been sought to fill vacancies caused by resignations or community councillors leaving the area – and where the point had been reached where one-third of the remaining members were co-opted.
Four candidates came forward for the six seats available on Cullen and Deskford Community Council, while three candidates came forward the six seats on Dufftown and District Community Council. In both cases those candidates will become members of the respective community councils unopposed.
