SUMMER MAY STILL be in the air but for one Moray theatre group thoughts are already turning to colder days, Snow White and her customary accompaniment of Seven Dwarfs.

The Forres-based Varis Players are deep into planning their 2016 Panto – and to that end have already held auditions for their production of Snow White.

Rehearsals are ready to get under way at the end of the school holidays with Catriona Davis – who is the director of the James Barry show – telling insideMoray: “We had a great turnout for the auditions and there were several new junior members reading for main parts which is great to see.

“Casting it was very difficult but everyone read well and those who didn’t get main parts will be kept busy in the chorus in a variety of ways. First impressions suggest that this lively cast will keep me on my toes again.”

Catriona, who is directing the show for a second year, added: “I am so pleased to see that there is a wide age range. Last year was my first time directing and, daunting as it was, I found that there are so many talented and knowledgeable people in Varis Players as well as non-members, willing to offer advice and help which made it a pleasure.”

Forres Gymnastics Club and June Roy Dancers will again be part of the annual show which is being held in the Forres Town Hall.

Catriona explained Varis Players obtain a lot of help from local groups: “It is lovely to have the support of other clubs and it helps to make the pantomime a real community event.

“Selecting the cast means that back cloths and lighting can be ordered, plans for sets and props put in place and costumes designed – and we are very excited about costumes this year.

“Last year, the giant was a massive challenge and this year we have dwarfs. We already have ideas for the two dames outfits which are great fun to design as you can go wild so already before we have even started with the rehearsals it is shaping up to be another great pantomime.”

Snow White has been cast by Emily Ross and Prince Valiant by Michael Neilson.  Colin Smith will play a dame whilst Sam Young is the evil Evilynne and daft Muddles is to be played by Tiarnan Clarke. Looking after everyone is Sam Robertson as Fairy Luna and Miriam the Magic Mirror will be played by Courtney Reade.

The seven dwarfs are Emma Robertson, Sadie Custodio, Jack Wilson, Simon Dunbar, Lauren Bird, Holly Gray and Jason Cameron.
