FAKE BANKNOTES ARE circulating in Moray are causing concern for retailers and customers alike with police warning to people to be on the lookout.

Retailers and licensed premises in particular are being told that they should be aware of fake banknotes currently circulating in the region.

The notes are in a variety of denominations but most commonly appear to be Bank of England £20 notes.

Keeping a watch on the case is PC Callum Elder, who said: “Businesses are advised to be extra cautious with cash transactions and ensure they thoroughly check the legitimacy of all notes.

“Anyone who is concerned they have received any fraudulent money or has any information concerning the matter should contact Police Scotland on 101.”
