SCHOOL CHILDREN FROM throughout Moray are being invited once again to take part in an annual Christmas Card design competition.

The Moray Parliamentary Office are organising the event this year on behalf of CLAN Cancer Support and gathered with volunteers from the local branch of the charity in Elgin to launch the competition.

As is the tradition each year a theme is selected – and for the 2016 card that will be ‘welcoming’. Local businesses have already stepped forward to sponsor the competition which each year raises over £1000 for its nominated charity.

Tracy Sellar, the CLAN Moray Area Coordinator said: “CLAN Cancer Support is firmly committed to developing the provision of wellbeing and support services for anyone affected by cancer as close to the heart of communities as possible.

“Within the Moray area we have developed our services through the creation of drop-in centres across the area, reducing the need for people to travel significant distances to access our support.

“The support we receive within the communities of Moray – both in terms of raising awareness of CLAN and helping with fundraising activities – is fantastic. We hope the children enjoy taking part in the competition and we look forward to seeing the final design.”

Moray MSP Richard Lochhead commented: “This year’s Christmas Card competition is on the theme of ‘Welcoming’, which is very much a part of CLAN Cancer Support’s work with those affected by a cancer diagnosis and the family and friends who support them during that time.

“CLAN do an amazing job with the dedicated staff and volunteers at their office in Elgin and in the outreach work they do throughout the Moray area.

“We have had some fantastic Christmas Card designs and loads of entries from all over Moray. We have written out to Moray schools seeking entries and entries can also be sent directly to our offices at 9 Wards Road, Elgin, IV30 1NL.”

His Westminster colleague Angus Robertson added: “Over the years we have highlighted the hugely important work of a range of charities operating in Moray and generous sponsorship from local businesses has enabled substantial donations to be made to those charities as a result of the competition.

“If there are other businesses who would like to sponsor the Christmas Card Competition and, in turn, the important work of CLAN, then they should contact our office for information on 01343 551111.
