THE ROTARY CLUB of Elgin are encouraging people from throughout Moray to don their trunks and swimsuits next month as part of a world-wide event.

Swimming pools in Elgin and Lossiemouth will be the focus for local contribution to the Rotary Global Swimarathon – the Swim to End Polio.

A spokesman told insideMORAY: “This is our local contribution to the world-wide Rotary effort to end polio throughout the world right now – this year. Those taking part should also be aware that for every £1 they raise in support of that effort, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will provide £5, ensuring that this can make a very real difference.

“The Swimarathon is for everyone, businesses, schools, swimming clubs, local organisations, families and individuals. People can enter the event either as individuals or in teams of five.”

The event on February 24 will take place in the pool at the Moray Leisure Centre between 1pm and 2pm and then attention will switch to the Lossiemouth Swimming Pool from 4pm to 5pm.

There is an entry donation of £5 per person for under-12s or £10 for those over that age – as well as whatever sponsorship each group or individual can raise for every length of the pool swum. There is a minimum requirement to complete six lengths.

Further details and entry forms can be found online.
