Forres enjoys a strong sense of community and its collection of community groups is a testament to that. On thi page, we will highlight some of the community groups, but you can get a full listing on our directory page.

Forres Community Council

Forres Community Council represents the Royal Burgh of Forres and meets on the third Thursday of the month in The Tolbooth at 7.15pm.

FACT (Forres Area Development Trust)

Forres Area Community Trust

FACT is a development trust with long term plans to make the Forres area a better place to live, work and visit. FACT was formed in 2011 to benefit the community of the Forres Academy catchment area and is led and managed by local people. By working in partnership and developing projects, FACT aims to:

  • Address local social and economic issues
  • Generate income to sustain the trust and invest in the community
  • Secure funding for projects that meet local needs
  • Support other local groups with their plans

With the objectives to advance:

  • Citizenship and community development
  • Protection of the local environment, culture and heritage
  • Education and lifelong learning for the benefit of the general public

FACT is one of more than 250 development trusts in Scotland all set up by communities to tackle local issues and make improvements that local people want.

Finderne Community Council

Community Council 5 – Finderne covers Rafford, Easter Lawrenceton, Dunphail, Edinkillie, Logie, Cathay, Altyre, Burgie, Blairs, Blervie, Brodieshill, Relugas, Glenerney, Braemoray.

Finderne Development Trust

The Finderne Development Trust (FDT) works towards the following vision:

 “A community of people, and place, which has a thriving rural based economy that protects and enhances the natural environment for the benefit of both residents and visitors”.

To achieve this we will concentrate our efforts on a number of fundamental strategic themes. These include

  • Rural Economic Development
  • Recreation, Health & Well Being
  • Protecting & Enhancing Finderne’s Natural Assets
  • Supporting skills & capacity building in the community

and these will be pursued with the underlying values and principles of

  • Community focused
  • An emphasis on long term investment
  • Sustainability
  • Supporting other groups in achieving their goals through empowerment

Film Forres project
Are a group of volunteers that have fundraised for a new permanent cinema in the Forres Town Hall, funding for equipment and seating. Receiving funding from LEADER, Awards for All, MFR Cash for Kids, COOP Community Fund, Scottish Express Grants, Local businesses, community groups and Community Councillors.

The Forres Heritage Trust
A new community group has been formed to ensure the survival and development of the town heritage, bringing the Forres Tolbooth and Nelson’s Tower back into the life of the local community.A website has been developed to provide introductory information on the Trust, its aims and what it can offer residents and visitors to Moray.Nelson Tower Opening Times
01 April to 30 September

Moray Hydrotherapy Pool
Hydrotherapy is a form of exercise carried out in a specially heated pool. Many people with conditions like arthritis, muscular dystrophy, MS, cerebral palsy, autism, as well as victims of strokes or accidents and pre & post-surgery patients. People with physical or mental difficulties to exercise and improve their quality of life can use the heated pool. Hydrotherapy can also be used to treat and speed recovery from sports and work related injuries. Additionally, hydrotherapy offers a great way to relax and generally promotes good health.
