A TRACTOR DRIVER had an amazing escape when grass-cutting the verge of the A96 between Keith and Huntly on Wednesday.

The Bear Scotland employee was working the west-bound carriageway when his tractor was struck from behind by a Mercedes Sprinter truck – throwing several long metal pipes through the back of the tractor.

One of the pipes passed through the cab of the tractor just inches from the fortunate driver.

Three fire and rescue service appliances were rushed to the scene from Huntly, Aberchirder and Keith along with police and ambulance crews. The unnamed tractor driver was taken to Turner Memorial Hospital in Keith where he was treated for minor injuries.

A spokesman for the tractor driver’s employers said: “A Bear Scotland vehicle was involved in a road traffic collision with a van early this afternoon on the A96 at Coachford.

“Police Scotland investigations are ongoing regarding the cause of the incident.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward on the non-emergency 101 line or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
