THE REACTION OF an Aberlour man to being refused any further drink in a local hotel landed him with an appearance at Elgin Sheriff Court this week.

Gavin Strachan of Tower Place admitted repeatedly kicking and punching a bar staff member in the Aberlour Hotel on February 10.

The court heard that Strachan had been drinking throughout the evening and “did not take kindly” to being told that the pub was about to close. He reacted by entering a staff-only area of the premises and punched barman Samuel Booth before throwing him to the ground and kicking him in the face and body.

Solicitor Stephen Carty told the court that his client had known Mr Booth for some time and felt that on this occasion Mr Booth was being “heavy handed in his attitude”.

He added that his client was a first offender and that the appearance in court had taught him a lesson.

Deferring sentence for six months, Sheriff Peter Grant-Hutchison told Strachan that he was to be of good behaviour.
