Teen ordered to pay compensation to Kebab shop

Elgin Court
A TEENAGER HAS been ordered to pay over £850 in compensation to Elgin restaurant owners after hurling a rock through their window.

17-year-old Dean Stewart admitted the offence when he appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court on Thursday. As well as paying the compensation for the damage he caused to the Elgin Kebab House on Commerce Street, Stewart was fined £100.

On a separate charge, Stewart was also fined £100 and banned from driving for 18 months after being caught more than four times over the drink/drive limit a week earlier.

The court heard that the attack on the restaurant at 2am on Saturday, May 30 came when Stewart did not have enough money to pay the £7.20 price of a kebab.

Demanding a discount and banging his hand on the counter, he was asked to leave the premises – when he did he smashed the window, showering customers and staff in broken glass and injuring one staff member.

Stewart, of Logan Court in Elgin, also admitted the drink/drive offence after he had been stopped by police at around 10.25am on Saturday, May 23.

Stewart’s solicitor told the court that his client had “a lot of maturing to do” but added that he had seen the error of his ways.
