A CAVALCADE OF CLASSIC cars roared its way through Moray and into Aberdeenshire on Friday helping to put a north east cancer charity firmly on the map.
The host of vintage cars took part in a tour of a number of CLAN Cancer Support’s wellbeing centres throughout the north-east of Scotland, helping raise both awareness and funds for the popular charity.
The event is the brainchild of Ron Billings, a support volunteer for CLAN in Elgin and a member of Moray Historic Wheels. After the success of last year’s inaugural drive, it has now firmly established itself in the charity’s calendar of events.
The fleet of vehicles were waved off from Decora in Elgin by Grenville Johnston, Lord Lieutenant of Moray, before taking the scenic route through Tomintoul to Balmoral Castle.
After a quick stop for lunch and a photo opportunity, the cavalcade moved on to CLAN in Ballater and Banchory before arriving at CLAN House, the charity’s headquarters in Aberdeen.
The event, which attracted car enthusiasts from across the north of Scotland, is on course to raise thousands of pounds for CLAN which will go towards its provision of free support services to anyone affected by cancer across the north and north-east of Scotland.
Tracy Sellar, CLAN’s Moray services co-ordinator, said: “Last year was the first time that the CLAN Cavalcade had been organised and it was such as success, helping raise nearly £3,000 for the charity, that we decided to do it all again this year.
“It was fantastic to see cars of all shapes and sizes from yesteryear come together in aid of CLAN and to be able to drive right up to Balmoral Castle and stop for a photo was the icing on the cake of what was a fantastic day out.
“The cars passed through a number of areas that the charity is active within, providing a range of free support services to individuals and families who live in that town or village. Events like these really help put our services in these specific areas on the map and I’d like to thank all those who gave up their time to be part of the event.”
