A SPEYSIDE DISTILLERY will today aim to mark its 50th anniversary by challenging a professional golfer to drive 350-yards over their warehouses.

Owners of the Tomintoul Distillery, Angus Dundee Distillers, have laid the challenge to golfer Joe Miller – who has sent a ball soaring 474 yards along a fairway so all being well has a fair chance of pulling it off.

The company are one of Mr Miller’s sponsors as he continues his preparations for the 40th annual World Long Drive Championship in Oklahoma this October. Currently the World No.1 at the discipline, Joe previously held the world title five years ago.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to the challenge at Tomintoul, it is going to be a lot of fun and a really good challenge regardless of the outcome – we are quite dependent on the weather.

“The wind can tip the scales very quickly and play havoc with us – and the weather in Scotland can be a real challenge but I do enjoy the pressure.”

Regional manager for Angus Dundee Distillers, Duncan Baldwin, said: “We are thrilled that we can include in our celebrations our challenge to Joe Miller. No doubt the wind will be a factor but if Joe can reach some 350 yards in the air he will be successful.”
