Council strategy is to remove homelessness

MORAY WILL EMBARK on a three year homeless strategy following agreement by councillors on a draft document that sets out how the Moray Council and other agencies will work together.

The strategy will seek to prevent homelessness wherever possible – but when cases do arise it will seek to ensure that appropriate assistance and support is provided.

Included are objectives focussing on housing options and homeless prevention, provision of temporary accommodation and housing support.

A Moray Council spokesman said: “The council’s communities committee has approved the draft strategy for consultant and it is important that we consider the views of everyone with an interest in homelessness as we develop the new homeless strategy for 2015/2018.

“This includes the views of people who have experienced homelessness themselves as well as the many different organisations involved in working to prevent homelessness.”

Consultation on the strategy (which can be found online) will run until September 18 and will inform the final strategy for approval in October.

The consultation survey can be found online now.
