FOND MORAY MEMORIES has prompted Ukraine’s top professional male choir to include Elgin in their latest UK-wide tour.

The Boyan Ensemble of Kiev will undertake a 23-venue tour this autumn – and have chosen the St Columba’s Church as the most northerly venue after receiving the warmest welcome possible in 2014.

Moray was placed on the top of their list when planning the tour with choir members requesting a return visit after the overwhelming reception and hospitality they received the first time around.

Touring the UK has provided a welcome relief from the stress and privations of their war-torn homeland for a choir who use their talents to raise funds for families who are struggling to survive in the Ukraine.

Their Moray concert this year will take place at St Columba’s on Friday, October 9 when the Glen Moray Male Voice Choir will join the Boyan Ensemble in opening the second half of the concert.

A contrasting concert will see the sacred chants of the Eastern Orthodox tradition performed, while in the second half the mood will change as the choir vividly demonstrate the exuberant and diverse folk culture of the Ukraine.

Tickets are on sale now from Cathedral Windows on 225 High Street in Elgin priced at £16 which includes interval refreshments – entry for Under-12’s is free of charge.
