A MORAY ROAD has been closed until further notice after a 20-metre stretch was swept away by torrential rain.

Moray Council road workers are assessing the damage to the Dallas to Knockando road with a spokesman for the local authority saying that there is no indication when the road will be reopened.

The road was partially swept away by a landslip that undermined the edge of the carriageway late on Tuesday close to the Aultahuish Bridge which is two miles from Dallas.

A spokesman pointed out that while a detour is in place it will add considerably to local journey times: “Unfortunately the only diversion is fairly lengthy and traffic which would normally go direct from Knockando to Dallas will instead have to go via Archiestown, Rothes and Elgin, and in the opposite direction for traffic going between Dallas and Knockando.”

Local access to properties and farms is available on either side of the damaged road but no through traffic will be permitted until further notice.
