Main post office in Elgin could move to former Comet building

PROPOSALS TO MOVE Elgin’s main post office are being considered as part of a national modernisation of services.

Elgin is by no means the first post office to be affected in Moray in what is the most widespread changes ever made to postal services throughout the UK.

Offices in towns and villages around Moray have already been moved, with consultations currently under way in Lossiemouth where the High Street branch is expected to switch to a local newsagent early next year.

Now the Batchen Street main office in Elgin could move to the former Comet building just 200 metres away on South Street – a site where it would be more accessible to the public, although local parking in the area may be an issue.

Should the change be accepted it would be the latest in what will eventually be 8000 post office branches being either upgraded or moved, many without the full agreement of local communities.

Views on the Elgin proposal can be sent by email to comments@postoffice.co.uk or by telephone to 03457 223344. If the move goes through it is likely that it will take place by the Spring of 2016.
