BUCKIE’S CHRISTMAS KICKS off on November 21 when one of the most anticipated day-long Festive Light celebrations takes place in the town.

If those who attended in 2014 thought that was a cracker – they are in for a great deal more in 2015, according to Buckie Kracker & Lights committee member Andrew Murray.

“This year is already shaping up to be the biggest and best ever,” Andrew said of the fifth running of an event that has snowballed into a real extravaganza.

He added: “The event will officially start at 10am – however, to help get the kids in the Festive spirit, the committee have teamed up with the 1st Buckie BB’s hold ‘Breakfast With Santa’ in the South and West Church.”

That will allow youngsters to attend two sittings at 8.30 and 9.15 with the man himself – but by special request Santa has emailed the organisers and asked that they take advance bookings through his honorary Elf Leanne on 07515 891609.

Meanwhile when the main event kicks off they can enjoy the star attraction – a complete Ice Rink hired for the day that is wheelchair accessible. Andrew said: “We have also booked Santa and his Winter Expedition, complete with a few off-duty reindeers who will invite visitors on a journey to the North Pole.

“By special arrangement with the big man, a free photo shoot with polar bears will kick start the journey, then on to the Christmas Fairy for face paints and glitter tattoos, followed by a stop to meet Santa and his good lady in their grotto,

“This spectacular journey comes to an end with an opportunity to view your photos and purchase or place an order.”

Inflatable Land on the High Street, a Marquee packed with local craft workers and businesses and a selection of outside stalls will allow people to get off to a great start with their own Christmas Shopping – all with a background of live music. If things get too hot the local fire brigade will be on hand and if feet are a little sore, the land train will also be available.

The centrepiece of the day will be the big parade at 1pm followed by whacky races, while at 3pm the Buckie BB’s will drop close to 5000 balls from the centre of the square down the High Street. Finally the Christmas Lights themselves will be switched on at 5pm with Emmerdale actor Danny Miller heading the ceremony and setting off the Fireworks!
