Gordonstoun School – historic abuse charges for former teacher

A FORMER GORDONSTOUN teacher has appeared in court facing historic charges of acting in a lewd, indecent and lustful manner towards 13-year-old pupils.

Andrew Keir appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court to answer the charges that relate to a period when he was a teacher at the private school in the 1980’s.

Keir, whose address was given as being in Cheshire, denied the charges and will return to the court for trial on February 8.

The 65-year-old is alleged to have removed his swimming trunks in front of children, exposed himself and pulled down the trunks of pupils. He is also alleged to have showered naked with the children, making sexual remarks and touching them inappropriately.

A spokesman for Gordonstoun last night confirmed to the P&J newspaper that the school had been made aware of the allegations in May: “We are aware that Mr Keir has been charged with a serious offence, allegedly committed at the school in 1988-89.

“We became aware of the case in May 2015 when we were contacted by police after complaints had been made by a former student. We have given police our full support and will continue to help with their inquiries in whatever way we can.

“The case is subject to ongoing legal proceedings so we cannot comment further at this time.”

The most recent report on Gordonstoun by the Care Inspectorate note that comprehensive child protection procedures were in place.
