THE YOUNG MAN who died in a horrific accident near Kinloss on New Year’s Day has been named by the North East Police Division.

The collision on the B9089 Roseisle to Kinloss road happened at around 12noon and involved two Volkswagen Polo’s, one red and the other blue.

Lossiemouth man Daniel Gordon, 24, sadly died at the scene. Police said that Mr Gordon’s family were “devastated by the loss”, which was also felt by his many friends who paid tribute on social media sites.

In the other vehicle involved was an 80-year-old female driver and her 59-year-old male passenger. Both managed to escape before emergency services arrived on the scene, the driver was taken to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries while her passenger suffered only minor injuries.

Police issued an appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward, Sergeant Steve Manson of the Trunk Road Policing Group saying: “We would appeal to anyone who saw either of the vehicles prior to the collision, or who was on the road at the time, to contact Police on 101.

“We would particularly like to talk to a man who was walking nearby and gave assistance to the injured parties.”
