Over 50s boost as ScotRail reveal £16 return ticket to anywhere

MORAY OVER 50s who signed up for the free ScotRail Club 50 deal last year were given a massive boost yesterday when they received an invitation to purchase return tickets for anywhere in Scotland at just £16.

The surprise move came after many customers had complained that the new service introduced when Abellio took over the franchise was no match for the former Club 55 reduced travel option.

Several had raised the issue with local MSP Richard Lochhead, who subsequently met with ScotRail managing director Phil Vester. As a result Mr Vester promised to meet with Moray passengers in person and answer questions on Club 50 and other issues affecting Moray passengers.

However, on Monday Club 50 members received a surprise bonus when ScotRail announced an offer that surpasses anything ever before – allowing members to obtain a return ticket to any Scottish destination from now until March for the new low flat fare.

Confirming the deal ScotRail’s commercial director Cathy Craig said: “This ticket offer is even better than the deal we offered as part of the old Club 55.

“I’m sure that thousands of Club 50 members will use it to travel right across Scotland to see family and friends or just to visit a part of the country they have never been to before.”

Tickets can be purchased online or at any ticket office or via telephone booking from now, with the current offer available until March 19. The offer is limited to off-peak services.
