THE NEW YEAR started with a smile for an Elgin woman who went to a purchase her parking ticket and found a gift from a birthday-celebrating stranger taped to the machine.

In an era when we almost expect vandalism of parked vehicles it is terrific to be reminded that we are living in a community where there is much more kindness.

That was certainly the experience related by Elgin woman Mandy McKay when she posted an image on her Facebook page at the weekend.

Mandy said: “A very happy birthday to the kind stranger who left the note along with two one-pound coins in an Elgin car park.”

The pre-printed ‘random act of kindness’ note had the handwritten message on the back “celebrating my birthday by doing some kindnesses for strangers – have a fab day”.

Mandy added: “What a generous and thoughtful thing to do – we need more people like this in the world, it made my day.”
