GETTING FIT AND fighting Cancer throughout March is the aim of a group being formed in Forres by one family who hope to encourage many more to join in their effort.

The ‘Walk All Over Cancer’ group has been kicked off by Sarah Coulson – encouraged by her mother, a cancer survivor, and daughter who have both pledged to take part by walking at least 10,000 steps each day through March.

Each day Sarah plans to dedicate her steps to a different individual – and is encouraging others to do the same by joining the group and helping each other to meet their personal goals as well as raising funding for Cancer Research UK.

Sarah told insideMoray: “I have lost a lot of family members and close friends to cancer and I know that, sadly, this is the case for many people in Moray.

“But I’m not doing anything amazing – I’m not climbing Everest or walking from Lands End to John O’Groats, what I am planning is to do what I can, taking a step – or 10,000 of them each day – in the right direction.

“I believe a lot of people in the Forres and throughout Moray might like to sign up to this effort – 10,000 steps a day is a personal target, but yours might be more or less. It’s my experience that if two or three people approach someone, with a sponsor form each, they may manage sponsorship of £1 or £2, which is welcome.

“But if those people raise money as a group the same sponsor may donate £5 or £10. For that reason I have set up a group page with Just Giving and have also set up a Facebook page for anyone who is interested in taking part or who just join us by making a donation.

“Walk All Over Cancer seemed as good a name for the group as any, I hope that this is a new approach that will be welcomed by many people in our region and perhaps be copied further afield.”

People can join in the group simply by going to its Facebook Page or those who wish to donate an amount, however small, can do so via the group’s new Just Giving page.
