OVER 208 TURNED out to take part on Moray’s only organised event as part of national Sport Relief effort.
Throughout the UK ordinary people joined a galaxy of stars in raising over £55million – in Moray, the effort was concentrated on Forres where Sunday saw a hardy band of all ages taking on six miles, three miles or one mile in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile.
It turned into a massive success with friends and families coming together “doing the extra mile” – joined by staff from Sainsbury’s in Nairn who had a variety of last-minute Sport Relief goodies helping to boost the fund.
Also present were Slimming World Forres, who as well as providing information had their group leader, Amanda Cameron, lead several members in the three mile event.
Forres Community Sports hub members were also there with inflatable football, while Moravian Orienteering gave a demonstration of the sport that captured the imagination of the region that helped host their World Championships last summer. The Elgin Community Café were making smoothie’s on a bike, while local gymnasium Life and Sole had everyone warmed up and ready to go for the run.
The entire event was organised by Forres Area Soccer 7s and the Forres Community Sport Hub under the watchful eyes of chairman Shaun Moat, who said: “It was a fantastic day – watching the community come together to support such a great cause was brilliant.
“We feel very proud knowing that the money raised will help people living unimaginably tough lives right here in Moray, across the rest of the UK and in some of the world’s poorest countries.
“The fundraising TV event on Friday night raised over £55million and people from Forres and throughout Moray will help add to this figure.”
