MORAY’S MP HAS been honoured by the most-read Asian newspaper in the UK by being named as their ‘Parliamentarian of the Year’.

The SNP’s leader at Westminster received his award last night at the Asian Voice Political and Public Life Awards.

The Moray MP was selected for the honour by readers of the weekly newspaper, which had been published for 43 years and has grown to have the largest readership of all papers in the Asian community.

After receiving his award the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, Mr Robertson said: “I am absolutely delighted to win this award, and I’m very grateful to the readers of Asian Voice for their support.

“The SNP is exceptionally proud of the close relationship we have with the Scots Asian community, and I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank the Asian community in the rest of the UK.

“It has been an exciting time for the SNP group in Westminster, as our new group of MPs has been working hard to be the effective opposition. Tonight’s award is a real honour.”

Asian Voice was first published in 1977 under the title ‘New Life’ and has grown to become one of the most respected and influential papers for the British Asian community.
