Sweet smell of Vinyl success for Keith band?

VINYL IS RETURNING fast if recent record sales are anything to go by – and a Moray band who are knocking on the door to major success are tapping into the market with the release of their new single.

The Carousels, who hail from Keith, this month released the 7” single on the Spanish record label You Are the Cosmos – and are banking on the new generation of music lovers to add it to their collection for spinning on turntables recently recovered from the attic – or purchased new.

A new album from the band is in the offing – Love Changes Like the Seasons – but for those who like to take their music in small bites then the new Double-A side single will prove alluring.

The seven piece band – Roy McPherson, James Smith, Martyn Cowie, Sam Dixon, Mark Simpson, Amy Steele and Amy Paprikansky – have been gaining a deserving reputation as one of the most exciting new groups to appear in Scotland for many a year.

Ironically, however, much of the attention they have gained so far has come from Spain – hence their work being released on a Spanish label, while the fact that the band members are spread throughout Scotland does not make things easy (although any effect that may have had on the quality of their output is minimal).

On the new release Acoustic/Electric guitarist Roy McPherson told insideMoray: “This double A-side is essentially a love song dedicated to the passage of time, an ode reflecting upon the heartache and missed opportunities of the past whilst optimistically anticipating the wonder of the future – accept it, learn from it, face life, move on.

“Both songs build to heavenly instrumental heights filled with bright guitars and solid backing whilst the emotional fiddle and slide guitar licks lend a traditional character and atmosphere to the tracks, all of which come together to conjure images of big sky landscapes under a glorious sun.

“Halcyon daydreams from the far North of Scotland where the sun tends to be notable by its absence.”

The tracks – Lord Speed my Hurricane and Loaded Gun – are available to purchase on vinyl via http://www.youarethecosmos.com/artist/the-carousels, or for those determined to stick with the digital versions a search on iTunes will find the MP3’s.
