Council tenants can have a real say in housing policy

Invitation to Council Tenants to make a difference

COUNCIL HOUSE TENANTS in Moray are being offered an opportunity to have a real influence on decisions taken over housing-related matters in the region.

The Moray Tenants’ Forum exists to provide feedback to Moray Council, meeting each month and attended by staff from the Council’s housing section as well as by elected members.

Currently the Forum is seeking to have a broader representation that currently – in particular with younger tenants. With the Forum AGM set to take place on April 26, the local authority is asking people to consider coming forward.

A spokesman said: “The forum gives tenants the opportunity to influence decisions on housing -related matters and to help improve housing services and we regularly consult with the forum on changes to the service.

“We would like to see more tenants becoming involved to help shape the future of our housing service.”

Those joining the forum could expect to be involved in decision-making over such as tenant scrutiny, which will allow members to carry out inspections of services within the housing section at Moray Council including interviewing staff and studying documents and data.

The Annual General Meeting will take place at the Inkwell on Francis Place, Elgin at 2.15pm on April 26, any tenant who would like to attend is asked to call 0300 123 4566 in the first instance.

Moray Council supports the forum through grant funding and help is available with expenses for travel or childcare costs for those attending meetings.
