Community is gearing up for another Burghead Gala week

A COMMUNITY GALA week that has been steadily growing and improving since the tradition was resumed seven years ago is hoping that 2016 will be another bumper year.

This summer the Burghead Gala week will open by recognising this Olympic year with their own ‘Family Olympics’ event, the busy July 2 opening day also including the crowning of the Gala Queen, a Junior Disco and a Pub Quiz.

In the week that follows each day is very much a Gala day with a wide range of events around the town, including football and other kids sports, a Beetle Drive, Darts and Pool competitions and a Race Night – all in the opening four days.

Chairman of the Burghead Gala is Gordon Moir: “Since we restarted the Gala we have fought very hard as a community to improve it each year – and we have managed that, with attendances at Gala events increasing every year.

“We work all year round to make the week both fun and affordable for everyone – we organise eight days of fun throughout the first week of July. We try to cater for all ages through sports and activities for kids and families to entertainment for adults – including competitions for the more competitive.”

Pet lovers may see the Dog Show arranged for Thursday, July 7 as a highlight – while smaller kids (and a few bigger ones) will enjoy the Sandcastle Competition the following day.
