SOME OF MORAY’S most promising theatrical performers are gearing up to showcase their talent in a special event in the Elgin Town Hall later this month.

Dance students from the Lossiemouth-based Rock Academy will take to the stage in a show that is likely to be of particular appeal for both dance fans and anyone who themselves aspire to a performing arts career.

Taking part in the show are full-time students of the Academy alongside younger dance students aged from four years old.

Former Elgin Academy pupil Alex McGettrick, who is now an HND Professional Dance Performance student, believes that the show may well prove to be something of an eye-opener for people who are not yet familiar with the work of the Academy.

The 19-year-old said: “Some people may not believe that performing talent exists here in Moray, and this is a great way to see the range of dance styles we are taught by professional performers.

“Anyone thinking of going on to study dance or musical theatre should come along. Rock Academy is a great option for people like me who want to study at a high level and want to remain close to home in this area.”

Another student, former Lossiemouth High pupil Rhiannon Brebner, 17, added: “It’s a show that encompasses everything that Rock Academy is about – the talent here is unreal, from the younger kids aged three all the way up to the full-time students.

“I’m always surprised at what everyone is capable of. It is inspiring, and anyone, including younger people who are thinking about a career on stage, should come to the show to see exactly what we do.”

Diane Aspinall, Director of Dance at Rock Academy, said that the quality of stage talent in Moray will shine through during the show.

She said: “This show has been stripped back, with no fancy gimmicks or big elaborate costumes. The performance will showcase the technique, quality, talent and performance skills of the individual – just pure Dance Dance Dance!”

‘Dance Dance Dance’ takes place at Elgin Town Hall on Friday, May 13 from 7.30pm. Tickets, priced at £10 and £7, are available to buy online via www.rockacademy.co/box-office
