PLANS FOR MAJOR developments in Elgin will go on public show for the first time today when Springfield Properties show details of their 2500-home development to the public.

As well as the new homes being proposed on the south side of Elgin, more details will also be shown of the new Moray Sports Centre proposals which, while not directly linked to Springfield, is being driven forward by the company’s chairman, Sandy Adam.

Local people are being invited to the New Elgin hall today from 2pm until 8pm with Springfield Properties land director, Kenny Shand, saying that details of the first stages of construction for the project will be on show.

“That phase will feature a combination of affordable and private houses and facilities like the Moray Sports Centre and new primary school,” Mr Shand said, adding: “We wish to give people an idea of how the process will work – and it would be great to hear from a variety of people with different views.”

Present at the event will be Kathryn Evans, chief executive of the Sports Centre project, who said the event offers another opportunity for the public to see for themselves the plans being put in place.

The Moray Sports Centre project is currently going through an application process for funding from sportScotland for a project that is being match-funded by Mr Adam, who has said that the level of facilities available will very much depend on how much is raised through the fundraising efforts of individuals and sports groups in the region.

Ms Evans hopes to meet as many people as possible today for what she said is a ‘last chance’ to offer feeding on the plans before they are finalised in June.
