WARM SUNSHINE USUALLY signals the beginning of the Gala Day festivals around Moray – and one of the first off their mark by contacting our leading community site is Portgordon.
The active community at the coast town are now well in advance for their organisation of the 2016 event being held on Saturday, June 4.
Three groups have formed the driving force – the village hall, harbour group and the Portgordon Post, who between them have created a Gala Day that will be a celebration of Portgordon as well as an opportunity to mark the Queen’s 90th Birthday.
Village hall chair Sue Lane said: “The day will have three main components – a Treasure Hunt organised and facilitated by the Harbour Group, which is aimed at all ages and is being promoted widely as a family event.
“There will be a Picnic on the harbour green which is being organised and facilitated by the Portgordon Post. It is also a be a ‘bring your own picnic’ event with fish and chips available to purchase from the Codfather, while there will be raffles and bottle stalls.
“Finally, the Village Hall Committee have organised a Gala Disco featuring Paul T Mobile Disco, who will be playing music from across the seven decades of the Queen’s reign.
“We would like to see people dressed either as their favourite star from across the ages or in clothes from the decade of their choice – this is, of course, optional. The Disco will be a ‘bring your own drink and food’ ready to party from 7pm until midnight.”
The Gala is being supported by Portgordon Primary School and Tesco Buckie, who are between them suppling entertainment and volunteers in support of what is hoped will be a smooth-running day for all the family.
