THE RECENTLY APPOINTED design team responsible for planning the 28-mile dualled stretch of the A96 between Hardmuir and Fochabers are set to ‘meet the public’.
Three events have been arranged in Fochabers, Forres and Elgin where Transport Scotland’s A96 Dualling team and their design consultants Mott MacDonald Sweco will be available to answer questions.
Ahead of the question and answer sessions, the Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Jobs and Fair Work, Keith Brown, said: “The Scottish Government has given a clear commitment to dual the A96 which will see delivery of around 88 miles of upgraded road between Inverness and Aberdeen, a huge task but one we are committed to delivering.
“Dualling the A96 requires careful, in-depth planning and design so that we deliver the right scheme and help tackle congestion, make journey times more reliable and, crucially, improve road safety.
“Having awarded the up to £50 million design contract earlier this year for the 28-mile section between Hardmuir and Fochabers, we are in the early stages of developing route options for the scheme and expect to consult on these later next year.
“The feedback received following the exhibitions held along the A96 corridor in May 2015 will be taken into account during the development and assessment of route options for this section of the route.
“These “Meet the team” events are an opportunity for locals and road users to hear first-hand from the people designing the route.
“As we progress the route options assessment stage of development further public consultations will be undertaken as part of our rolling programme of engagement to ensure that communities, businesses and individuals affected by the work are kept fully informed and their vital feedback taken into account.”
