MORAY’S TEENAGE CYCLIST Georgia Mansfield has ended the season with a new Scottish Junior 25-mile time trial record – paving the way for greater feats in what will be her final ‘Junior’ year in 2017.
It was at the Scottish National 25-mile time trial in Irvine that the Miltonduff rider smashed the existing record for her age and distance.
During the event Georgie looked to be on top of the clock all the way – with her gold medal time beating the previous record by almost three and a half minutes. The Forres Cycle Club member will now take a well-earned break before getting back into training for 2017.
“Georgia still has another season to compete in the Junior Category – and it would come as no surprise if she were to better her new record time yet again,” a spokesman for the FCC said, adding: “If the progress she has made this year is anything to go on then 2017 is going to be another fantastic year for her.”
A pupil at Elgin High School, Georgia’s head teacher, Andy Simpson, recently commented that her sense of commitment to her sport was remarkable, as was her level of self-motivation: “None of her circle of friends are involved in Cycling – which is further testimony to her personal drive and determination.”
