Help with legal quagmire facing small businesses

Free advice to small and medium businesses this week.

AN EVER-INCREASING number of people in Moray who are choosing to start their own business will find that there is a myriad of legal hurdles to overcome – both at the beginning and throughout their business lives.

This week some help is being offered to small and medium business owners with a free Employment Law masterclass being held in Elgin.

The masterclass will be held at the Mansfield Hotel on Thursday from 9.30am and is being provided free of charge by Avensure, who support small to medium businesses through hosting nationally-funded seminars.

An Avensure spokeswoman told insideMoray: “This February we’re running an event for business owners discussing issues such as Disciplinary Procedures and Part-Time staff as well as the proper policies required to protect your organisation from any damages.

“The event is for Owners/Directors and those at Executive Level. Our Law Specialist will be covering the updates in legislation that will affect employers. These will include changes to employee grievance procedures, sickness and absenteeism, employee disciplinary procedures and employee dismissal.

“It will also look at misconduct or gross misconduct offences, social media policies at work and health and safety issues.”

Businesses represented at the seminar might also claim free on-site health and safety evaluation and a free question and answer with an employment law specialist.
