Sporting catalyst is aim for new Moray activity programme

ATTEMPTING TO ENSURE that their activities act as a catalyst for people in Moray to make a lifelong commitment to participation in sport.

That is the aim of the Moray Council Sport Development department on releasing their programme for the period from August until the end of 2017.

A pledge to continue to work with a range of partners to achieve that aim has been made – including such as the Moray Active Schools Team, Community Sports Hub Officer, Moray Council Leisure Facilities, National Governing Bodies for Sport, Moray College and local sports clubs.

Revealing the programme this week a spokesman for the sport development department told insideMORAY: “At certain sessions representatives from sports clubs will drop in to promote activities that they offer locally with the opportunity to sign up as club members and progress to competitive sport.

“Sessions will be delivered by qualified coaches in a fun, safe learning environment building skills in a variety of sports. Junior sessions are available for age three through to secondary school age, and there is also a Walking Football programme for over 50s. The full programme can be viewed here.”

The details of the programme is now available for download from the Moray Council website.

New sessions for this term include a Gymnastics session in the Elgin area for Primary 1 -7s, and a Walking Football session in Aberlour.

The spokesman added: “The programme is part of the Fit Life? Membership Scheme which was launched in 2015.

“The scheme is aimed at encouraging people to be more active in Moray with options to sign up for monthly memberships to receive free access to facilities and classes. All sessions in the Sports Development programme can be accessed at no extra cost for Fit Life? members.”
