MORE INFORMATION HAS emerged on the plans to create new community centre facilities at Kinloss Barracks.
Last month it was announced that almost £15,000 had been allocated under the Libor funding scheme, which uses cash recovered from criminal activities and directs them towards community projects.
Moray’s MP Douglas Ross welcomed the funding, saying that it would be used to develop the Kinloss Activities Building into a vibrant community centre for families of men and women serving at the barracks.
It has now been clarified, however, that the facility will also be of benefit to the wider local community, opening to a range of groups, activities and events.
A spokeswoman for the project said: “We’re enormously grateful for this LIBOR funding. The bid for funding was developed by Sarah Magee, the Community Support Senior Development Worker, Army Welfare Service with input from our senior youth group and community members.
“The purpose of the funding is to develop Kinloss Barrack’s old HIVE building into a multi-purpose community centre to facilitate civilian and military integration through youth and community events. Our youth group consists of local youth from military, reservist and civilian families.
“This funding will be used to support the range of groups, activities and events which we have actively promoted within our immediate and wider local communities.”
