A COMMUNITY COUNCIL has raised concerns over recent changes to bus timetables introduced by Stagecoach.
Elgin Community Councillors raised the issue at their meeting this week, pointing out that there is no longer a direct bus link from Elgin to Inverness Airport – leaving Airport-bound passengers to change at Nairn.
That, it appears, can also leave passengers stranded as no “proper provision” is being made for Airport-bound passengers in the event of the Elgin to Nairn bus running late.
Douglas Clark of Elgin Community Council, who first raised the issue, said after the meeting: “I was told by Stagecoach that there would be a guaranteed connection from Nairn to the airport, but the new timetable contains the words ‘Connection not guaranteed’.
“If the connection is missed, the next bus from Nairn to the airport is an hour later. I hope Stagecoach will monitor the service and report how frequently the connection is made.”
Community Councillors agreed that Stagecoach be contact for clarification on what instructions have been given to their drivers regarding waiting for the incoming bus at Nairn – and how long they should wait.
At Tuesday’s meeting the Community Council also discussed the removal by Stagecoach of a bus connection serving Pluscarden Road and Wittet Drive, impacting on residents attending Dr Gray’s Hospital.
They also decided to hold a special meeting to consider in detail the budget consultation being held by Moray Council.
