Forres groups showcase their work at the Town Hall

A few days ago, Forres Town Hall saw groups and organisations in the area come together to showcase what they do, and to invite people to see for themselves what the Town Hall has to offer.  This was followed by a well-attended Forres Area Community Trust AGM that saw FACT  awarded national recognition for their work with volunteers – the Volunteer Friendly Award.

Debbie Herron of FACT said “Since taking on the management of Forres Town Hall, we have been overwhelmed with the support and acknowledgement of everyone locally. Not just the user groups but organisations such as the Forres Heritage Trust, Moray Waste Busters, ReBOOT and the many many individuals who have given up their time to clean, decorate and repair the building.”

She continued “The recognition of the Volunteer Friendly Award programme demonstrates and endorses the hard work of the FACT team and the volunteers who give up their time to support our community.”

Forres Town Hall has had a busy time since Forres Area Community Trust took on a two year lease in July to ensure that the building stays open for the community to use. This has included hosting the annual Flower Show, performances as part of Findhorn Bay Festival and Forres in Bloom volunteers as the welcomed the Keep Scotland Beautiful Judges  as they visited the town.

Forres Town Hall is an important facility in the area, as it is home to many different groups including the Varis Players, Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society,  Forres and District Pipe Band, Forres OAPs and the venue for many coffee mornings every Saturday from 10.00 – 12 noon.

Fabio Villani (Chair of FACT) said “We have had a very busy and exciting year, with many challenges and successes as we work together to ensure that the Town Hall remains open as a resource for everyone. We have a long way to go and we are optimistic that we can make this work. If anyone would like to know more, would like to contribute  or has ideas for the future please do get in touch, we would love to hear from you.“

He continued “Evenings and weekends are a busy time for the Hall but we have space available during the day if anyone is looking for a venue. I am also pleased to announce that we are taking bookings for 2020 coffee mornings on Monday 10 December from 10am. Tea and coffee will be served and we hope that it will be an opportunity for people to meet friends old and new, and to see for themselves what is on offer locally.”
