Buckie Veteran appointed to manage new Erskine Activity Centre in Forres

A Buckie man who served in the British Army has been appointed manager of the soon-to-be-opened Erskine Veterans Activity Centre (EVAC) in Forres.

The Erskine Veterans Charity is currently transforming the old Victoria Hotel on Tytler Street into a vibrant hub for Veterans, and the new centre is expected to become a cornerstone of community engagement and support.

Davie Grant, born and raised in Buckie, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. A former Trooper with the 4th Royal Tank Regiment, Davie served in the British Army. Following his military service, Davie has dedicated over a decade to Care in the Community, working in palliative care, rehabilitation, and one-to-one residential care.

Carer and protector

Davie said: “Throughout my life, I have been a carer and protector of people. In my new role, I hope to combine all my life experiences to enhance the quality of life and wellbeing of Veterans in the community. This centre will be central to the lives of those in need, offering a friendly face on a lonely day and reaching out to make a difference.”

Davie has also served for 30 years with the Buckie Lifeboat crew, including five years as a full-time Coxswain. He described his decision to join Erskine as a “natural progression.”

The new Erskine Veterans Activity Centre in Forres will provide a space for Veterans to engage in various activities, socialise, and access support services. Modelled after the successful Erskine Reid Macewen Activity Centre (ERMAC) in Renfrewshire, which has over 200 members, the Forres centre will offer sports, music, arts, and health-focused activities.

Vital resource

Wing Commander Ian Cumming MBE, Chief Executive at Erskine, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Davie Grant as the Manager of our new Veterans Activity Centre in Forres.

“Davie brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and passion for supporting others, and we are confident that his leadership will be instrumental in establishing the centre as a vital resource for Veterans in Morayshire.

“As we look forward to opening the doors of this new facility, we remain committed to providing innovative and compassionate support that meets the unique needs of the Veteran community in Moray and beyond.”
