Young people between the ages of 10 and 19 are being offered the chance to take part in a Moray production of the smash-hit musical hit ‘Grease’.

The classic show based in an american High School in the 1950’s has been chosen by the St Giles’ Theatre Group for their annual production in the Elgin Town Hall – and it will mark a final finale for the venue ahead of its being closed for major refurbishments.

In a statement released today, a group spokesperson said: “We are delighted to welcome back both Anne Duncan, who will be Director of this popular show, and Freda Chalmers, who will return to us as Musical Director.

“Full rehearsals will commence in September but anyone hoping for a principal part should be prepared to be recalled for further auditions and acting workshops. We look forward to seeing past members and welcoming new members.”

All young people are welcome to attend the open auditions for a part in the musical, with the first auditions taking place in the Williamson Hall beside St Columba’s Church on Duff Avenue in Elgin on Sunday, August 25 at 2pm

Everyone should be prepared to sing and dance, with those selected through the audition process expected to attend rehearsals each Sunday from 2pm until 4pm and on Thursday evenings from 7pm to 9pm.

St Giles’ Theatre Group productions have been taking place for over 25 years and is open to young people from Elgin and surrounding areas.  All profits from the group productions have from the outset been donated to Christian Aid, with over £50,000 having been raised over the years.
