Pre-Season Friendly – Buckie Thistle 0-3 Elgin City
Ross Jack called on no fewer than five trialists for his sides opening pre-season encounter at Buckie Thistle on Friday.
At the end of the ninety minutes the Elgin City boss will have been given some food for thought in what was a comfortable victory through three first-half goals, including one by veteran striker Dennis Wyness.
After a fairly even start City began to take control of the game and went ahead when a superb free kick from McKinnon flew into the net from 23 yards out. Shortly after a Paul Harkins corner kick found the head of Sean Crighton, and while goalkeeper Bell managed to block that effort the ever-alert Wyness was on hand to volley the ball home from close range.
Five minutes from the interval another Elgin corner caused chaos in the home defence with one of the on-trial City men bravely putting his body through the pile to force a header into the net.
The second half passed by with typical pre-season abandon as both managers tried different combinations with more on show for their benefit than that of supporters. That said there were opportunities, notably when Brian Cameron found space for City and a Donnie Munro effort from 30 yards was as close as the home side came to pulling one back.
