Developers behind a new biomass energy project in Speyside are hoping to encourage local individuals and businesses to become involved in their plans.
The Speyside Renewable Energy Partnership (SREP), a jointly owned venture of Estover Energy and Standard-kessel, are behind plans to create a new plant at Craigellachie Wood to supply renewable electricity to the national grid and to heat the nearby Macallan distillery.
There was fierce opposition to the project when it went before Moray Council planners, with a number of objectors saying that the plans would have a detrimental impact on the countryside.
However, councilors approved the project by a narrow majority. Now the partnership say they wish to bring on board local people in the creation and operation of a plant they say will provide up to 40 new jobs.
SREP will host an event in Craigellachie this week to find local companies or individuals who may wish to become involved in the project.
Company director Tim Evans, said: “We are looking for a wide range of individuals and businesses – everything from taxi drivers and bed and breakfast operators through to civil engineering contractors and hauliers.
“We would urge anyone who is interested to come along and meet the team.”
The event takes place at Craigellachie Village Hall on Wednesday from 3pm to 7pm.
