Expansion plans for Moray’s whisky industry was provided with yet another massive boost this week with the news that Ian Macleod Distillers are to create six new warehouses at their Tamdhu distillery at Knockando.
Just days after Edrington announced a £100m expansion on the Macalan Estate, Macleod say that they have reached a new finance deal with the Bank of Scotland that will see their expansion plans come to fruition with completion due in 2015.
The distillers have tripled their revenue over the last ten years to £52million and acquired the Tamdhu distillery from Edrington two years ago.
Company finance director Mike Younger said: “The additional warehouse facility at Speyside will provide us with storage space appropriate to our sales demand and support our ambitious plans for growth and further export sales.
“We established our first overseas subsidiary in India in 2010 and that gave us a foothold in this exciting growth market.”
The company has seen increasing demand for their whisky in Dubai, Malaysia, Bahrain and India as well as the more traditional European and North American markets.
Macleod Distillers employs over 100 people over three sites in Scotland.
