Around 120 airmen and women from Moray have been deployed to exercise their skills at one of the world’s largest training areas at the Hill Air Force base in Utah.
The men and women of XV(Reserve) Squadron at RAF Lossiemouth have been deployed on ‘Exercise Torpedo Focus’ at the United States base where they their participation will include live weapons practice on training ranges that are roughly the size of Wales.
It is the second time that the Squadron has taken its Tornado GR4 aircraft to Hill, this time for an exercise that will last for a month – the exercise is self-contained and will not involve participation by the United States Army Air Force at the base.
Taking part in the training will be Flight Lieutenant Jamie Lamb, who is a navigator with XV Squadron. He said: “It will be my first time deploying on Exercise Torpedo Focus and I’m really looking forward to the experience. The Exercise will give me the confidence to deploy on operations and replicate the training I received at Hill using live weapons.
“I hope to finish my training on the Operational Conversion Unit at the end of April and move to Marham onto a frontline Squadron at the beginning of May.”
