Highland League side Buckie Thistle have landed a jackpot pre-season friendly to celebrate their 125th anniversary year.
The Victoria Park club has revealed that part of their pre-season preparations this summer will include a meeting with Rangers.
Club secretary Marc Macrae confirmed the match with the Ibrox side last night – the result of a discussion he had with Rangers’ officials when the Ibrox side took on Elgin City in a pre-season friendly last summer at Borough Briggs.
Mr Macrae, club secretary and a director at the Buckie club, said: “I met with members of the Rangers management team last summer during a friendly match against Elgin City and issued an invitation to come and visit the Jags at Victoria Park.
“This was followed up with an official written request to Rangers to consider playing against us during their pre-season training and it was fantastic news when we heard back that this had been accepted.
“This is absolutely fantastic news for the club in what is our 125th anniversary year.”
Rangers will use the game to prepare for their biggest test yet on the way to returning to Scotland’s top level. Manager Ally McCoist will lead his side in the SPFL Championship – but faces a tough promotion test with both Hibernian and Heart of Midlothian on the same mission.
Details of the Buckie clash, which has been set for Thursday, July 3 at 7.30pm, will be revealed soon, with Mr Macrae saying: “We look forward to welcoming the “light blues” to Victoria Park and will be holding a board meeting in the coming days to finalise arrangements for the game, and will announce these further details including ticket information in due course.”
