A lorry caught fire on the busy A96 near Elgin on Thursday, causing what police described as ‘hazardous’ driving conditions for motorists.
The incident happened at one of the busiest times of the day between Fochabers and Elgin just two miles of Lhanbryde.
Two Scottish Fire and Rescue appliances were called from Elgin and Fochabers at around 5.30pm to deal with the blaze – but by the time they arrived the fire was already out.
However, the west-bound carriageway was closed for half an hour, leading to traffic tailing back towards Fochabers.
Traffic had to be diverted long the Loch Oire road while fire crews hosed down the lorry’s engine.
